Despite the financing issues, these are always popular. So it is nice to see this 1960s Neave Brown-designed brutalist apartment in Rowley Way, London NW8 hitting the market.

This is one-bedroom flat complete with south-facing balcony, found on the second floor of the Alexandra & Ainsworth Estate. That was built in the late 1960s and its standing architecturally has led to a rare Grade II* listing by English Heritage. Not bad for one-time social housing.

Of course, these days many of these units are being snapped up by private buyers who have fallen for its brutalist charm. The downside of wanting to do that is the financing. Most, if not all lenders are refusing to offer mortgages on this estate right now. So if you want to buy, you will need access to funds in other ways, not so easy.

But if you can negotiate that tricky situation, you’ll find an apartment here that has been ‘sensitively refurbished’ by the current owner, retaining or salvaging the best original features, including the large sliding door that separates the reception room from the sleeping area, the kitchen tiles, the bathroom and the glazed timber-framed sliding doors.

As for space, that’s on a single level, with a sizeable reception area with wooden floor, which opens onto a large balcony through full-height glazed doors. Also here is a separate galley kitchen that leads through to a WC and bathroom, which is also be accessed via the double bedroom. ‘Generous amounts of storage’ here too.

If you have the money available, there is a viewing day coming up (contact the agent about that). If you decide it’s the place for you after that, the asking price is £325,000.
