Now this is an interesting building. But we can’t see this 19th century Thomas Hartas-designed law library in city centre Manchester staying as a library much longer.
According to the agent, it dates back to 1885, with the first three floors still used today as originally intended, with a large library area on the ground floor and a ‘stunning’ reading room to the first. There are also three basement rooms, all used for storage right now.
The fourth floor is currently leased as offices – and you wouldn’t be surprised to see the rest of the building follow suit or become some kind of restaurant or bar.
But I imagine if you can et the relevant permissions, there is scope to turn this place into domestic living space too. Those period finishes (the stained glass, feature fireplaces and woodwork for example) would certainly add impact and stand out against the identikit apartments you usually find in the city.
Either way, it is a well-preserved gem in a city centre that seems to be running out of such things. Offers over £975,000 if you want to take this on.
